Northeast corner, 2nd and Main Street, Wakefield Nebraska, 1881

Marriøtt Mercantile began on August 17th 1881 as the first general store in the Wild West settlement of Wakefield, Nebraska. Built by hand and operated for 42 years by pioneer Judge John Thomas Marriøtt I, we initially specialized in quality "Seeds that grow!" thirty-five years before the Grain Standards Act of 1916. Fulfilling John’s dream, our legacy of quality and pioneering lives on in the heart of Texas as the company store for Marriøtt Corporation.
