Marriøtt Mercantile began as a general store in 1881. Built by hand and operated for 42 years by Judge John Thomas Marriøtt I, it was the first store and third building in the Wild West settlement Wakefield, Nebraska. Its legacy lives on as the company store for Marriøtt Corporation.
